Zelensky calls for Russian oil embargo, banking and tech sanctions

Zelensky said such measures would work towards maintaining peace for decades to come.
“Don’t wait for fatal gunshots, don’t wait for Russia to use chemical, biological, or, God forbid, nuclear weapons; don’t let the aggressor think the world is not resisting hard enough,” said Zelensky.
“Defend freedom and normal world order with full force, immediately; sanctions must be as harsh as possible, making Russia and any other potential aggressor realize the consequences for waging wars of conquest on their neighbors.”

The Ukrainian president said the current Western sanctions are falling short of this standard.
“They must be implemented; Russian oil embargo; complete isolation of Russian banks, with no exceptions; replacement of Russian software; a suspension of trade with the aggressor,” Zelensky added.
He said that a powerful sanctions regime would serve as a precedent, safeguarding international peace for decades to come.

“(We) need to establish a precedent of international companies leaving the Russian market, preventing their brands from being associated with war crimes, preventing their offices, accounts, and products from being used by war criminals in their violent interests.”
