Zelensky's office confirms Ukraine-Russia peace talks suspended

He chalked the suspension up to the lack of significant progress after the Istanbul communiqué.

"But any war will still end at the negotiating table and it seems to me that this process will be moderated by Mr. Zelensky," Podolyak said.
Earlier on May 17, Russia's Foreign Ministry stated that the negotiations with Ukraine had been suspended since Kyiv had withdrawn from the negotiation process.

"No, negotiations aren't underway,” Russia propaganda news agency RIA Novosti quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko as saying.
“Ukraine actually left the negotiation process. In any form.”
After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Russia and Ukraine held a series of negotiations. Following several meetings on the territory of Belarus, the negotiations switched to being conducted remotely.
At first, the Kremlin put forward various ultimatums to Kyiv, in particular regarding “demilitarization” and “denazification”, which Russian dictator Vladimir Putin declared the goal of Russia's war against Ukraine. Over time, the aggressor country's position in the negotiations has softened.
