In a conversation with President of the European Council Charles Michel, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the Russian attack on the Zaporizhzhia plant and demanded fresh sanctions on Russia’s nuclear industry.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "I spoke to Michel and told him about the situation on the battlefield, in particular at the Zaporizhzhia plant. Russian nuclear terror requires a more decisive response from the international community: sanctions on the Russian nuclear industry and nuclear fuel.

A positive assessment was given of the start of grain exports by sea. Preparations for the Crimean Platform Summit and other events were coordinated. The importance of unlocking the package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine as soon as possible was emphasised."

Reminder: On the evening of 6 August, the Russian army fired rockets at the city of Enerhodar, hitting the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant directly next to the area used for storing spent nuclear fuel.
