"I spoke with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, by phone. I thanked for the warm wishes for the Ukrainian people and for the defence support in the current year. I was assured of the same level of support in the next one. We've outlined joint activities."

Background:

  • Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, Minister for National Defence of Greece, said that Athens can transfer S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine if the United States places its Patriot air defence systems in Crete instead.

  • In September, Mitsotakis claimed that Greece has no intention of sending Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine, as it wants to avoid weakening its own defence.

  • In April, Slovakia transferred the S-300 air defence division to Ukraine, receiving the American Patriot instead.
