Zelenskyy discusses POW exchanges, humanitarian aid with UAE President

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Zelenskyy said in a message on Jan. 19.

Zelenskyy said that he thanked his counterpart for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as facilitating POW exchanges between Kyiv and Moscow.

"Bringing people home is a priority for Ukraine, so we look forward to UAE’s continued active role [on this issue]," the Ukrainian president said.

He also expressed gratitude for humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine.

"Last week we received a significant batch of over fifteen hundred [power] generators; Given the continuous Russian air strikes, such assistance is critical," said Zelenskyy.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed the possibility of long-term financial support from the UAE and mutual efforts to advance Ukraine’s plan for a just peace with Russia. Zelenskyy outlined the ongoing preparations for the Global Peace Summit and invited the UAE to join the process.
