Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promoted the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Kyrylo Budanov, to the rank of Lieutenant General on Sept. 7.

This is Budanov’s second promotion since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, after he was promoted to Major General on April 3.

The HUR has carried out a number of successful operations since the beginning of the full-scale war, including strikes deep inside Russian territory as well as a raid on occupied Crimea on Aug. 24, Ukraine's Independence Day.
