President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russia’s claims that it is prepared to resume negotiations with Ukraine do not correspond to reality because Russia is deploying reserve troops in southern Ukraine.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "They [Russia - ed.] are activating various emissaries with claims that the terrorist state supposedly wants negotiations...

If Russia really wanted an end to the war, it would not be accumulating reserves in the south of Ukraine right now or creating mass graves for murdered innocent people on Ukrainian territory.

In general, it is just disgusting to see former leaders of powerful states with European values working for Russia, which is fighting against these values."

Details: Zelenskyy has called on Ukrainians to keep fighting: "We need to fight, we need to beat the terrorists on our land, we need to spread information about Ukrainian interests and achieve success and victories for Ukraine."

Background:

  • On 3 August, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, said that Russia was prepared to resume peace talks with Ukraine.

  • Following a meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder said that Putin was prepared to resume diplomatic negotiations with Ukraine.

  • Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, believes that any claims that Russia is making with respect to resuming peace talks are just smoke and mirrors and are only intended to prolong the war.
