Russia's war against Ukraine could escalate into a Third World War, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with UK tabloid newspaper The Sun on Nov. 20.

"Ukraine today is in the center of these global risks of this Third World War," the Ukrainian leader said.

"And I really think that Russia will push until the United States and China together will tell them very, very seriously to go out of (our) territory."

Hamas's attack on Israel was a "really big wish" of Russia, the president noted, adding that the war in Israel has distracted the world's attention from Ukraine, which "does not help his cause."

He also emphasized Moscow's ties with Hamas supporters in Iran by recalling that Tehran strengthened Russia's military capabilities by supplying deadly kamikaze drones.

The Ukrainian leader also accused the Kremlin of “stirring up trouble” in the Balkans.

"We think that they’re preparing now in the Balkans, they are doing new steps," Zelenskyy said.

“And we think that they are trying to train or even training some people. The idea is to begin a conflict.”

Earlier, the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate or HUR, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, said the world was approaching a global war.

In October, Zelenskyy, citing data from the HUR, warned European partners that Russia wants to freeze its full-scale war against Ukraine and has several scenarios for achieving this.

In this case, the "critical moment" could come in 2028: Moscow will be able to restore its military potential by then and try to occupy Ukraine again, as well as attack the Baltic states and those countries where it has a military presence, the president said.
