Zelenskyy thanks Denmark for supporting Ukraine in speech at Danish parliament

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Danish lawmakers for their support of Ukraine in a speech delivered at the Danish parliament, the Folketing, on Aug. 21.

In particular, he thanked Denmark for helping Ukraine resist Russian aggression with military equipment, ranging from mine clearance tools to F-16 fighter jets that have now been pledged to Ukraine.

"Russian evil... openly states that Ukraine is not enough," he said.

"Later, after our country, they want to carry the suffering further to Europe and to the world. I'm sure you hear it – you hear it from Moscow. All of Russia’s neighbors are under threat – if Ukraine does not prevail, international law will not be resuscitated. Democracies of the world – each of them can become a target either for missiles, for mercenaries, or for destabilization. I’m sure you can feel it. But! Ukraine will prevail!"

When approving the decision to invade Ukraine, Putin "only believed in the length of his armored vehicles’ columns," Zelenskyy said.

"He believed only in force without humanity, he trusted violence, and that is why he is weaker. We believe in something completely different. And that is why we become stronger. All of us! Together with you! I thank you, Denmark, for helping Ukraine to become invincible!"

The president went on to express his further gratitude to the Danish people who are already engaged in initiatives to help rebuild Ukraine, in particular, the city of Mykolaiv on the southern coast.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the Ukrainian and Danish peoples "will always protect their freedom and never lose our faith – faith in people, in humanity, and in each other."

"And let this be another of our Copenhagen criteria… The criteria of those who win!"

Zelenskyy visited Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark during the weekend of Aug. 19-20. Amsterdam and Copenhagen subsequently pledged to provide Ukraine with F-16s — 42 and 19 units respectively.

Ukrainian pilots have also started training on Sweden-made Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets, while Kyiv and Stockholm agreed to jointly produce CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles.

Zelenskyy has reportedly now traveled to Greece, according to reports in the country’s media on Aug. 21, where he will meet with leaders of various Balkan countries.
