Zendaya’s Tommy Hilfiger Collaboration Is Giving Us Major '70s Vibes

Add to cart.

Zendaya is back at Paris Fashion Week but instead of sitting front row at her favorite shows, she'll be teaming up with Tommy Hilfiger for a limited-edition Spring 2019 collection. The TommyxZendaya collab looks like it could've been plucked straight from the '70s: zodiac-printed suits, high-waisted skirts cinched with oversize belts, knit sweaters with alternating stripes, plaid trousers slightly flared at the hem.

While Zendaya's personal style is inspiration enough on its own, the design team looked to the famous 'Battle of Versailles' fashion show as their point of reference. The 1973 Battle of Versailles was a charity event that pitted French designers against their American counterparts in a cultural battle of sorts. The U.S. designers triumphed over France by casting a record number of black models in the show, breaking barriers, making history, and eliciting cheers from the crowd.

The TommyXZendaya collection pays homage to that historic fashion moment, heralding both "The Battle of Versailles fashion show that took place during that era" and "the powerful statement made by the American models who took to the catwalk," the brand stated in a press release. TommyXZendaya will debut in full on March 2 with its own fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.
