Zero sturgeon harvested Upriver as weather plays major factor in another slow day

(WFRV) – Warm weather on Thursday left some sturgeon spearers in short-sleeved shirts as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released its daily sturgeon update.

System-wide, there was one juvenile female, two adult females, and two males harvested. Pipe took the lead, registering two sturgeon, while the Southwest and Waverly Stations each registered one. No fish were harvested Upriver.

The biggest fish of the day was an 80.4-pound, 70.0-inch F1 lake sturgeon speared by Rick Mattes.

The Poygan, Neenah, Stockbridge, and Quinney registration stations will remain closed on Friday. All other stations will remain open.

Colder weather is expected over the weekend, but the end of sturgeon spearing season is drawing to a close.
