Zionsville 10U Softball All-Stars win state title

Jul. 20—FLOYDS KNOBS — The Zionsville Little League 10U Softball All-Stars capped a perfect summer by winning a state championship on Tuesday evening.

Floyds Knobs tied the game at two in the bottom of the first, the only time other than 0-0 Zionsville had not been ahead all tournament.

But that didn't last long.

Stubos' RBI-single in the third made it 6-2, and leading 6-3 in the sixth, Zionsville capped the scoring on a Bryn Trout ground out.

Finke finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Stubos, Stoops and Hulls also had hits.

Stoops scored three runs, with Stubos and Maggie Marrietta also scoring.

Stubos struck out 10 in six innings.

12U Softball All-Stars fall just short

The Zionsville 12U Softball All-Stars fell just short of winning their second-straight state title.

The team lost to Floyds Knobs 12-7 in the championship game on Tuesday night.

Floyds Knobs jumped on top 3-0 in the top of the first inning, getting a 2-out single and an error to plate three runs.

They added two more in the top of the second, two more in the third, and one more in the fourth, putting Zionsville in an 8-0 hole.

Zionsville started to rally in the fourth.

With one out and one out, Hadley Bray doubled in a run, then scored on a Hallie Clark single to make it 8-2. Ainsley Watt followed with a triple to make it 8-3, and courtesy runner Caroline Westerfield scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4.

Three unearned runs pushed Floyds Knobs lead back to seven in the fifth.

Zionsville looked like they were poised for another big inning in the bottom half of the inning, when after Olivia Deaton and Anna Cope walked, Tess Bradford doubled to make it 11-6. But with two on and one out, a double play ended the scoring threat.

Each team added a run in the sixth, with Logan Ferris driving in a run for Zionsville.

Bradford finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cope, Bray, Clark, Watt and Aurora Lee also had hits.

Cope and Clark scored twice, with Deaton, Bray and Westerfield scoring.
