Zionsville sweeps Boone County titles

Mar. 24—ZIONSVILLE — Zionsville won both the boys and girls Boone County track and field titles on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles won the boys meet with 182 points, besting second place Lebanon (38) and third-place Western Boone (24). The Eagles won the girls meet with 134 points, besting second-place Lebanon (77) and third-place Western Boone (33).

The Eagle boys went 1-2-3 in eight events.

In both the shot put and discus, Bennett DeCoursey won (54-07 in shot, 174-06 in discus) with Joey Tanona second (53-03, 162-03) second and Finn Essley third (42-03, 144-02).

Knox Willis was also a double individual event winner, taking the 110-meter hurdles in 15.31 and the 300-meter hurdles in 41.66. Ben Sloan was second in both events, finishing in 16.91 and 41.70. Zionsville made it a podium sweep, with Leonard Clay placing third in the 110s in 17.29 and Nick Walker placing third in the 300s in 43.34.

Cam Mullens led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100, finishing in 11.73. Jacob Horten was second in 11.76 with Walker third in 11.93. Diego Scheker won the 200 in 23.76, ahead of Parker Kent (24.27) and Anthony Ceresoli (24.32).

Zionsville went 1-2-3 in both of the long distance races, with Will Nobbe winning the 1,600-meter run in 4:49.17, finishing ahead of Skyler Cole (4:53.37) and Evan Mayo (4:54.31). Jesus Garcia won the 3,200-meter run in 9:51.61, with Matthew Helton placing second in 10:08.81 and Decatur Dell third in 10:32.9.

The Eagles swept all three relays as well.

In the 4x100, the team of Jackson Iler, Mullens, Scheker and Horten won in 44.52. Western Boone's team of John Jackson, Ethan Bayles, Connor Garrity and Hunter Peri was second, with Lebanon's team of Riley Newman, Caleb McKaig, Kyler Strange and Sam Green third.

In the 4x400, Ceresoli, Sam Miller, Aiden Krein and Will Varner won in 3:38.82. Lebanon's Aaron Gommel, Matt Duerksen, Jeremy Mullins and J.C. Reese were second, and Western Boone's Rowen Durbin, Blake Miller, Chase Richwine and Josiah Smith placed third.

In the 4x800, Zionsville's Andrew Albrecht, Max Essley, Jason Fu and Fenton Walpole won in 9:20.27. Lebanon's Ryan Keith, Sriram Srinivasan, J.D. Hawks and Zachary West were second, and Western Boone's Blake Miller, Nik Pierce, Jared Brown and Anthony Keppel placed third.

Iler won the 400 in 52.60, with Lebanon's J.C. Reese second in 55.02 and Carston Baker of Zionsville third.

Lebanon went 1-2 in the 800, with J.D. Hawks winning in 2:14.73 and Ryan Keith second in 2:16.27. Zionsville's Jack Schilson was third.

Alden Briney was the winner in the high jump, clearing 5-09. Western Boone's Connor Garrity was second in 5-04, with Sloan and Matt Schein tied for third at 5-02.

Zionsville's Cade Priddy won the pole vault in 14-feet, with Jensen Humphreys second in 8-06. Western Boone's Garrett Neff was third in 7-0.

Scheker won the long jump in 19-06, with Mullens second in 19-01.50. Lebanon's Riley Newman was third in 17-08.25.

On the girls side, four different athletes had double wins.

Lebanon's Hallie Montgomery won the 100-meter dash in 12.88, besting Zionsville's Emily Sexton (13.42) and Western Boone's Anaiha Baxter (13.90). Montgomery also won the 200 in a time of 26.35, with Zionsville's Lily Robinson in second in 27.36 and Delaney Greeson third in 27.94.

Lebanon also got a double win from Ashlyn Terrill, who won the shot put in 40-0 and the discus in 121-05. Zionsville's Kaitlyn Makinde was second in the shot put, with Lebanon's Lyla Barr third. Zionsville's Elizabeth Busse was second in discus, with Lebanon's Grace Ann Merchant third.

Zionsville's Kierston Hill won the 800 and 1,600. In the 800, she finished in 2:30.21, ahead of teammates Taylor Browne (2:34.60) and Ava Ward (2:41.04).

In the 1,600, Hill finished in 5:18.74, with Western Boone's Audrey Knoper second in 5:31.03 and Zionsville's Maddie Scheitlin third in 5:35.37.

Zionsville had another double winner, with Sophia Yovanovich winning the 110-meter hurdles in 18.16, ahead of the Lebanon pair of Riley Jump (18.41) and Addison Lollar (18.71). Yovanovich also won the long jump in 16-02.25, ahead of Montgomery (15-07.75) and Zionsville's Kennedy Merrell (14-08.25).

Zionsville's Emily Sexton won the 400 in 1:03.53, with Delaney Greeson second in 1:03.92 and Summer Stogsdill third in 1:07.09.

Lebanon's Riley Jump won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 54.55. Lollar was second in 54.88 and Western Boone's KaLeigh Steimel was third in 57.23.

Western Boone's Knoper won the 3,200-meter run in 12:03.21, with Zionsville's Keerti Mallur (12:11.20) and Isabella Brady third in 12:13.41.

Zionsville's Sarah Mayo won the high jump in 4-8, with Lebanon's Sarah Keith second in 4-04 and Lily Cripe third.

Zionsville's Anne Busse won the pole vault in 11-06, with Kennedy Merrell second in 11-0 and Ava Esteves third in 10-0.

Zionsville won the 4x100 relay, with the team of Sophia Yovanovich, Lily Robinson, Delaney Greeson and Emily Sexton winning in 50.65. Lebanon's Lexi Trepcos, Maggie Scott, Riley Jump and Hallie Montgomery were second, with Western Boone's Maisa Kent-Doolan, Hannah Hay, Elena Gubera and Lillie Cripe third.

In the 4x400, the Zionsville team of Grace Weisenbach, Mary Raikos, Lily Robinson and Katie Chadwick won in 4:21.01. Lebanon's Abbi Coyle, JaLeigha Howard, Murphy Adams and Summer Stogsdill were second, and Western Boone's Audrey Dunn, Sydney Haag, Sam Jones and Anaiha Baxter were third.

In the 4x800, the Zionsville team of Weisenbach, Chadwick, Annabel Hermancinski and Lydia Struble won in 10:33.73. Lebanon's team of Stogsdill, Howard, Coyle and Adams were second and the Western Boone team of Haag, Jones, Katheryn Rutherford and Knoper were third.
