Zionsville's Williams signs with DePauw

Mar. 23—ZiONSVILLE — Joe Williams has been a key piece of the Zionsville offensive line over the past few years.

Now he is taking his talents to the next level. Williams is heading to DePauw to continue his academic and football careers.

He had a signing ceremony at the school on Wednesday afternoon.

"I am really excited and I can't wait to get down there to start playing and practicing with everybody," Williams said. "I know a couple of other people there that I already know from previous years playing with Zionsville, so I am excited for the opportunity."

DePauw is a Division III school that plays in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Tigers finished 9-2 last season, winning the NCAC and advancing to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Brett Dietz.

"The coaches definitely stood out," Williams. "There was a great environment there too — from the players, to the stands and the people — I was drawn to it all. I just really liked the school."

When talking with the coaches at DePauw, Williams said they told him they liked several things about the way he played and how he can make an impact on the field.

"They liked how big I was at first," Williams said. "They liked how I could see their offense and what all their positions are doing and how I can point out things on the film."

Since the season ended, Williams said he is working to get over shin splints that have bothered him during his entire Zionsville career.

He is also getting ready to ramp in up in the weight room as well.

As he looks back on his time at Zionsville, he is going to take away a lot of fond memories.

"I will remember the friendships I have made," Williams said. "I have made a lot of great friendships over the years, from coaches to teammates to people in my class. I have loved my time here."

Williams plans on studying something in business.
