BOSTON (AP) _ Ziopharm Oncology Inc. (ZIOP) on Thursday reported a loss of $22.8 million in its fourth quarter.

The Boston-based company said it had a loss of 11 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 10 cents per share.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $80 million, or 38 cents per share.

In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $4.65. A year ago, they were trading at $3.20.
