That may not sound too promising, but let's dive a little deeper.
Lawn Love determined various factors that are most relevant for a zombie apocalypse and selected five categories as crucial for survival: vulnerability, hideouts, supplies, protection and mobility.
After gathering data for 200 cities, scores were calculated out of 100.
How does Des Moines rank in zombie survivability?
While Des Moines ranks 42nd, the city's overall score is only 39.10 out of 100.
But, when it comes to hideout spots, Des Moines is the place to be, ranking No. 3 out of 200 cities. The city may not have bunker-style homes like in South Dakota, but there are plenty of homes with complete kitchens, plumbing, basements and even bomb shelters.
If you can't fight, waiting out the zombie apocalypse in your basement might be the best bet.
However, it might be hard to find survival essentials in Des Moines, as the city ranks 136th in the supplies category. Supermarkets, pharmacies and outdoor gear shops are harder to come by than in other cities, which could cause a serious lack of protective gear, food and medical supplies.
Des Moines doesn't rank too high for protection either, coming in at 176th. This is because of the lack of hunting gear, ammunition, weapon and outdoor stores. There's also a lack of shooting ranges in the city. Sadly, if you can't fight, you can't get far.
So, really, your chances of surviving the zombie apocalypse in Des Moines are 50/50.
