Zoo Babies: Akron Zoo is home to adorable snow leopard cub

Welcome to AOL Lifestyle's Zoo Babies, which profiles the newest and most adorable additions to zoos across America. From a baby sloth named Wookiee to a rambunctious baby tiger named Carlie, these zoo babies will fulfill your daily dose of cuteness.

One female cub is helping to revitalize the snow leopard population at the Akron Zoo. Born on April 29, the cub, who has not yet been named, is the eighth born to mom Shanti and the ninth born in zoos this year.

"What makes her special is that she's a single cub," Mark Schneider, the lead animal keeper at the zoo, explained to AOL Lifestyle. "She doesn't have any siblings to play with, so she's taken it upon herself to play with mom's tail as much as possible." The cubs are normally born in pairs, and most often include more males than females.

Right now, the cub is separated from Shanti for a few hours a day to help her build her independence. A similar situation would take place in the wild, when her mom leaves her alone to hunt.
