Zoo Health Club Bridgewater Is Latest Closure Due To Coronavirus

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Zoo Health Club of Bridgewater is the latest to permanently close after feeling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite Gov. Phil Murphy's decision to finally reopen gyms on Sept. 1, Zoo Health Club officials wrote on their Instagram page that the damage from being forced to close since March is already done.

"We didn't get the support we needed from the government and without receivables the bills became too much. We can not recover from being closed over 5 months. We wish it was different but our governor kept gyms closed too long," according to the gym's Instagram page.

Zoo Health Club officials also noted that "too many people are scared to go back to a gym so they quit." Members have also been quitting "because they won't wear a mask."

Murphy said gyms were allowed to reopen at 25 percent capacity, and customers have to wear masks, beginning on Sept. 1.

The Zoo Health Club opened inside the Somerset Shopping Center in Bridgewater in 2018. Now it is the latest store to close up shop at the shopping center.

Pier 1, Modell's, and New York & Company are all closing at the center. Read More: Modell's, New York & Company Closing Bridgewater Locations

The center is leased by Levin Management Corporation.
