ZZ Top to play Dignity Health Amphitheatre on April 29

Feb. 6—Bakersfield can raise a toast to ZZ Top when "That Little Ol' Band From Texas" returns April 29 for a show at Dignity Health Amphitheatre for its "Raw Whisky" tour.

This show is part of the band's continuing tour, whose name is a nod to the current album, "Raw," as well as ZZ Top Tres Hombres whisky from Balcones Distilling of Waco, Texas.

Formed in Houston in 1969, ZZ Top emerged from the core of two rival bands, Billy Gibbons' Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill's American Blues.

It was the third album, 1973's "Tres Hombres" with the hit "La Grange," that brought the band to national attention with a mix of roots blues and rock.

Along with "La Grange," other hits include "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs."

For more than 50 years, the band consisted of the original lineup of vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill. Elwood Francis stepped up to replace Hill, who died in 2021.

The performance kicks off at 7:30 p.m. April 29 at The Park at River Walk, 11200 Stockdale Highway.

Tickets, ranging from $44 to $124, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at AXS.com.
