George W. Bush to return to White House for hanging of official portrait

George W. Bush is returning to the White House.

The former president and ex-first lady Laura Bush are due in Washington on Thursday for the unveiling of their official portraits. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are expected to be in attendance.

It's not the first time the 43rd president and his successor have met in the Oval Office. On Nov. 10, 2008, Bush welcomed then-President-elect Obama for a tour of his future home. Former Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter gathered with President Bush and Obama in the Oval Office in 2009, shortly before Obama took office. And George W. Bush was, of course, present at President Obama's historic inauguration on Jan. 20, 2009.

The Bushes and Obamas have been photographed together several times since then. In February, Laura Bush attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington. And the first families observed a moment of silence together at the National September 11 Memorial in New York on Sept. 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center.

In 2010, George W. Bush, Clinton and Obama gathered at the White House to announce humanitarian aid to Haiti.
