Newt Gingrich’s Mississippi and Alabama speech: full video

After placing second in the Alabama and Mississippi primaries Tuesday night, Newt Gingrich took the stage in Birmingham, Ala. to insist he will remain in the race through the Republican convention in Tampa, Fla. in late August. His campaign had high hopes in both states, given that the Deep South is considered the base of Gingrich's support. With victories remaining elusive, Gingrich seemed to acknowledge that his hopes for the nomination rested in a contested convention.

"When the primaries are over and it's clear no one person has won, who would do the best job of representing America, governing, and winning the election against Barack Obama?" Gingrich asked the audience. He also noted that he had accumulated a "substantial number" of delegates since both states award them proportionally.
