Sarah Palin supporters to run Iowa ad urging her to rethink 2012 race

It's been nearly two months since Sarah Palin officially ruled out a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, but with the 2012 race in flux, some of her die-hard supporters are still hoping she might reconsider.

Conservatives 4 Palin, a group that has long pushed the former Alaska governor to run for president, announced in a blog post it has raised enough cash to run a TV ad in Iowa asking Palin to rethink her 2012 decision.

The group hasn't disclosed exactly what the ad will say, but it has purchased airtime on a television station in Sioux City, a northwestern Iowa city that is one of the most Republican areas of the state.

"What we do next after the television ad goes up is a more difficult question. If this ad is able to build some momentum for the governor, the best way to keep that momentum going may be to commission a national GOP primary poll that includes the governor as one of the options," Conservatives 4 Palin's Ian Lazarian wrote in a post to readers. "We'll see if it's possible given our resources. We're open to other ideas but the greatest challenge may be that time is running short for her to reconsider."

Indeed, Iowa may be the only early state where Palin could technically compete if she were to rethink her decision. The deadlines for candidates to qualify for the New Hampshire and South Carolina primary ballots have already passed. The deadline to qualify for Florida's Jan. 31 primary is Jan. 3.

A spokesperson for the former governor did not respond to a request for comment about the Iowa ad. But Palin has given no indication she regrets her decision about the 2012 race. In recent weeks, she's continued to appear on Fox News, where she's a paid political contributor. She headlined a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Florida earlier this month, and in October, she traveled to South Korea, where she made a paid speaking appearance.
