Vice President Joe Biden meets Wednesday with representatives of gun-violence victims groups and gun-safety organizations, and he’ll follow up that with a meeting on Thursday with representatives of the National Rifle Association and other gun-owner groups.
This weeks’ meetings are part of a series of gatherings Biden is conducting following the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., that left 20 children and six adults dead.
President Barack Obama wants Biden to report back to him with policy proposals by the end of the month.
Also worth noting on Wednesday: The Supreme Court will hear a case on whether a law enforcement officer may obtain a nonconsensual blood sample from a drunken driver, N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo delivers the State of the State address, and Obama hosts the cast and crew members of the television show “1600 Penn” for a screening at the White House.
And then there is this: Wednesday is the 100th anniversary of President Richard Nixon’s birth. A gala marking the occasion will be held at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., and speakers include former National Security Adviser and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Nixon speechwriters Pat Buchanan and Ben Stein. Nixon's daughters Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Nixon Eisenhower also will attend.
