    The Upshot

Share your story: How have you changed since 9/11?

On September 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania killed almost 3,000 people. On September 12, the survivors, the families of the victims, the first-responders woke up to find their lives irrevocably altered -- as did all Americans.

Ten years later, Yahoo! is asking: How have you changed since September 11?

[Your Story: Tell us how you have changed]

Perhaps you lost someone close to you. Or the attacks compelled you to join the military or volunteer more of your time. Or, perhaps more simply, you hold your loved ones closer to you than ever before.

In honor of the victims, survivors and heroes of 9/11, the Yahoo! Contributor Network is asking readers to share their stories and memories of that day; tell us how 9/11 changed you.

Your story will be featured alongside thousands of others on the Yahoo! News 9/11 anniversary site.

I saw the second plane hit the Tower from my class room. I saw the towers fall, people jumping, the sound of the jets circling, the white dust that coat our windows, the smoke from the fire and ash that lasted for weeks. These I will always remember. I went downtown to see the new towers rise from the ashes. It will not bring back the loved ones lost that faithful day however its says the American Spirit is Strong and Proud. We will forever remember and always, Always overcome.

Overcome? You have been totally controlled. 911 was an inside job.. and the murderers of 3000 that day and 100,000s subsequently ...laugh at the american peasants.
      • justplntrd 8 mths ago
Rory, just shut up. You comment on this post is not the least bit appropriate. Peddle your nonsense somewhere else for a change. You have absolutely no evidence of any of this so it's a big lie.
      • jeff 8 mths ago
No evidence? How about nano-tnermite, molten metal, free-fall collapses, 100+ firefighters and police describing bombs in the buildings, 1,550 architects and engineers citing controlled demolition.

Watch WTC7 fall like a rock through air and see what it reminds you of.

I think everyone has changed in some small way. I was away from home, and in a train accident 3 days later. It made me a stronger person and to realize that no matter what, life is more important then anything else. And that people tend to interpret things in their own way, not the way it was intended.

I have three men(sons) and I love them very much and I see the same love in the pictures you have shared. I love them so much and I do not take one second for granted. Thank you

@ Walter Two points need to be noted. You are right, there is no mention anywhere in their Koran of the actual number of virgins available in paradise, and second, the dark-eyed damsels are available for all Muslims, not just suicide killing martyrs. But you forgot one important piece of Islamic hisotry.

It is in the Islamic Traditions that we find the 72 virgins in heaven specified: in a Hadith (Islamic Tradition) collected by Al-Tirmidhi (died 892 AD) in the Book of Sunan (volume IV, chapters on The Features of Paradise as described by the Messenger of Allah [Prophet Muhammad], chapter 21, About the Smallest Reward for the People of Paradise, (Hadith 2687). The same hadith is also quoted by Ibn Kathir (died 1373 CE ) in his Quranic commentary (Tafsir) of Surah Al-Rahman (55), verse 72: "The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]'."

Time is coming closer to the tenth annivesary of the Sepbember 11, affront and all the suffering it produced. What happened on that day led me to study both the Bible and Islam more and I found out instead of these al Qaeda members being people who some falsely claimed "hijacked the religion of Islam" were in reality practicing one of the aspects of Islam which is found in the teachings of the Quran. Which reads in Sura 47 "When ye encounder the unbelievers, strike off their heads, untill ye have made a great slaughter among them. Verliy if Allah pleased. He could take vengeance on them without your assistance, but He commandeth you to fight His battles." Moreover, the scenes of the Mullims who were celabrating that abomination of that happen that day in different countries only shows the sad and evil spiritual condition of these people who follow the religion of Islam. To this the Bible teaches "whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished" Proverbs 17:5 and Jesus said "by their fruit you will recognize them" Matthew 7:20. As for the Muslims who liked the al Qaeda operatives who commited thse murders and blamed the victims of the day the Bible teaches in Proverbs 17:15 "acquitting the guilty and condemning the inocent- the Lord detest them both." Also, Proverbs 28:4 teaches "Those how forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law resist them." The American military had fought and resisted the villains in Afghanistan who put those jihackers up to that evil. Furthermore, what those al Qaeda operatives did on Sepember 11, 2001 may be described in Psalm 94:21. "They band together against the righteous and condemn the inocent to death." [NIV]

I remember being in 5th grade, everybody getting called down to go home. We all thought it was funny, why would 20 students be getting called down to go home in an hour? It was absurd. Until I went home that day. I live in NY and have a perfect view of the skyline. The twin towers were no longer there. Just black smoke that came over Brooklyn, over my neighborhood and out over the ocean. A very eerie day, considering it was gorgeous outside.

As an American who was once a 911 Communications Technician from Maryland, I was
devastated emotionally at the destruction on 9/11 then proud at the emergency response
by the New York 911 emergency coverage and the local rescue work to save lives & I
regret not being able to be there myself to help in any rescue work as I believe people came
from all over the USA from 911 employment to assist in calls & daily rescue efforts.signed

Do you want to "remember 911" and honor the people who died? Do so with a full investigation by an independent investigatory body that has no political influences. Nothing in the 911 report got in there without administration approval. Of course, most of the evidence has been destroyed or melted down under FBI supervision, so it may not be possible.
There is evidence that NORAD response was purposefully delayed or suppressed via concurrent exercises that occurred on the morning of 911. These exercises (Vigilant Guardian and Vigilant Warrior) were under direct supervision of the executive branch, secret service and Dick Cheney. They simulated a hijacking of airliners and also diverted a large percentage of our air cover to bases far away from the northeast sector.
Also, the normal FAA / NORAD procedure for responding to off course aircraft was changed via an order by Donald Rumsfeld in June of 2001 which affected our response the the subsequent attacks months later.
Two big questions... why did WTC 7 collapse and why wasn't there a military response to the hijackings? These are the two biggest questions that still need to be answered fully that were essentially ignored by the 911 commission.
Read "Crossing the Rubicon" by Mike Ruppert with an open mind; regardless of your current beliefs. It may change your mind.

If you study history, you'll see the constant cycles of peace and war. The warmongers have to be held in check because they are motivated by greed and the lust for conquest. 9/11 was engineered at the end of the Cold War to provide a new pretext for massive militarization and wars of conquest. The criminals are being constantly emboldened by the apathy of their serfs in America. Exposing the truth about 9/11 is essential to putting the brakes on this runaway train of death and destruction. Wake up America before it's too late!
