2020 inspires a scented candle — and it smells like banana bread, hand sanitizer and 'Tiger King'

2020 may be a year that’s already burned into your memory, but a British company wants to make sure those memories burn even brighter.

Flaming Crap, a novelty company based in Yorkshire, England, recently released their “2020 Scent” candle, “to mark what has been an unusual year.”

The vegan kerasoy wax candle, which has “four fragrant layers,” is said to “take you on a sensual journey through the year.” Those scents include layers of a banana bread scent, reminiscent of everyone’s favorite quarantine baking creation. That’s followed by a layer of a hand sanitizer scent, seeing as most people have spent a good portion of the year slathering the disinfecting solution on their hands in an attempt to avoid COVID-19. Next is a unique twist, with a layer of woody musks in a nod to the popularity of lockdown DIY, alongside budget aftershave and an earthy essence. That final layer is dedicated to Joe Exotic, the star of the Netflix docu-series Tiger King, as it’s the scent that he “would use to attract his next mate.”

“Do these smells complement each other? Not particularly, but a slightly off scent seems rather fitting for the year of a global pandemic,” a press release for the product reads.

“Many people have mixed feelings about this year, Flaming Crap co-founder Oliver Burr adds. “It’s been tough on many levels, but others valued their time in lockdown. Our candle is reminiscent and a reminder of some of this year’s most prominent themes, and a completely unique gift this festive period.”

Each candle retails for £14.99, which converts to about $20 U.S.
