2nd person dies from injuries sustained in southwest Fort Collins house fire

The second person rescued from a house fire in southwest Fort Collins over the weekend has died.

The fire occurred in a one-story home in the 4000 block of South Taft Hill Road about 7 p.m. Saturday. Poudre Fire Authority firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the house's windows, PFA said in a news release.

Responders entered the home and found two injured people and a deceased dog. Both patients were transported to the hospital. One person died from their injuries Sunday morning, and the other person died Tuesday, according to an update shared by PFA.

The identities of the deceased will be released by the Larimer County Coroner's Office at a later date.

The cause of the fire was smoking materials combined with the use of oxygen, a PFA fire investigator determined. The fire seriously damaged the garage — where the fire started — and the kitchen, and there was extensive smoke damage throughout the house.
