32-year-old Lakeland motorcyclist dies in collision with SUV on Memorial Boulevard

A 32-year-old motorcyclist from Lakeland was killed early Friday in a crash with an SUV on Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland.

The Lakeland Police Department, in a Friday afternoon news release, said the crash happened about 7 a.m. at Crutchfield Road, about a quarter mile east of the I-4 interchange. Police said Richard Douglas, 80, of Huntley, Illinois, was driving a silver Nissan SUV east on Memorial Boulevard when he attempted to turn left onto Crutchfield Road. He pulled in front of a blue Kawasaki motorcycle driven west on Memorial Domonic Brooks, 32, of Lakeland.

The motorcycle hit the passenger side of the SUV. First responders from Lakeland police, Lakeland Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue attempted life-saving measures, but Brooks died at the scene.

The SUV's passenger, Barbara Douglas, 81, of Huntley, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. Richard Douglas suffered minor injuries.

The roadway was shut down for about three hours for the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Traffic Crash Investigator Officer Camilo Almeida at camilo.almeida@lakelandgov.net.
