CHURCHVILLE — Virginia State Police are investigating a reported alcohol-related crash that seriously injured a Churchville woman late Wednesday night.

Police said the crash took place shortly after 11 p.m. on Va. 42, one-tenth of a mile from where it intersects with U.S. 250.

According to a report, the driver of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was headed southbound on Va. 42 when he reportedly crossed the centerline and struck a 2014 Kia Optima head-on. The Toyota then hit a guardrail.

The driver of the Kia, Brianna M. Bosserman, 25, of Churchville, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was hospitalized.

The driver of the Tacoma, Aaron D. Sheets, 33, of Mount Sidney, had minor injuries, police said. He is charged with driving under the influence, DUI (maiming), failure to stop for an accident, and refusal to submit to an alcohol test, according to police.

Wednesday's crash took place on Sheets' birthday, court records show. He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
