President Biden has vowed to retaliate after the U.S. says a drone strike by Iran-backed militants killed three American troops and injured over 30 in Jordan.
Why it matters: It's the first time since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began, on Oct. 7, that American troops in the Middle East have been killed by enemy fire. [CNN]
Pressure to respond: The Biden administration has limited its previous retaliation to over 150 attacks by Iran-supported militias on U.S. forces. Republicans are now calling for a stronger response. [New York Times]

...about doing your taxes
Today is the first day that Americans can file their 2023 tax returns. Yahoo Finance reporter Ronda Lee discusses some of the things you'll want to talk to your accountant about.
Lily: What recent changes has the IRS made that’ll affect my tax return this year?
Ronda: The child tax credit and earned income tax credit returned to pre-COVID levels last year, meaning less money back. Also: If you’ve resumed paying down student loans, you may be eligible for interest rate deductions.
Lily: Are there any crucial deductions that most taxpayers tend to overlook?
Ronda: One in five taxpayers who qualify for earned income tax credit don’t apply. There are also green energy credits for homeowners that made energy-efficient improvements.
Lily: When will I get my tax refund?
Ronda: If you e-file and use direct deposit, around two weeks. Errors on your return, filing a paper return or requesting a paper check can cause delays. Track your refund on the IRS’s website.
