Bucks County schools close Friday as storm to arrive in early morning, last all day

Lower Bucks County is under a winter storm warning through Friday night and all school districts countywide have closed their buildings due to the snow.

The storm warning runs from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is due to start in the early morning hours of Friday.

A  winter storm warning is issued when a combination of hazardous winter weather in the form of heavy snow, heavy freezing rain, or heavy sleet is forecasted. Central and Upper Bucks are under a winter weather advisory with less snow in the forecast there.

Areas within the warning can expect total snow accumulations of 5 to 6 inches. The snow will make traveling difficult with hazardous conditions possible for the morning and evening commutes. In addition, Temperatures will drop into the teens late Friday night and early Saturday morning leaving untreated roads icy and dangerous.

Other areas included in the warning are Philadelphia, South Jersey and Wilmington.

Bucks County, Montco school closed for snow day on Jan. 19

School districts began closing their buildings for in-classroom instruction Friday ahead of the storm. They include:

  • Archbishop Wood High School: Flexible Instruction Day

  • Bensalem: Remote learning day

  • Bucks County Community College: All campuses closed.

  • Bucks County Technical School: Asynchronous learning day

  • Bristol Borough: Asynchronous day. "All Students are expected to log in to their Google Classrooms to complete all assignments."

  • Bristol Township: "There are no academic requirements for students or instructional staff."

  • Centennial: Flexible virtual instruction day

  • Central Bucks: Check district website for impact on rest of calendar.

  • Conwell-Egan Catholic: Flexible instructional day

  • Council Rock: Asynchronous instructional day

  • Hatboro-Horsham

  • Middle Bucks Institute of Technolgy: "Check Google classroom for an assignment from your teacher."

  • Morrisville: Asynchronous instructional day

  • Neshaminy: "There will be no online learning expectations. Stay safe and enjoy the day!"

  • New Hope-Solebury: Virtual asynchronous instruction will be provided for all students K-12

  • North Penn: Asynchronous virtual instructional day

  • Palisades: "Administrators and teachers will work remotely."

  • Pennridge: scheduled day off for in-service

  • Pennsbury: "Pennsbury schools and offices will be closed . . . this is our last traditional snow day, so please enjoy it."

  • Quakertown: Scheduled day off for in-service

  • Upper Bucks Technical School: scheduled day off for in-service

  • Upper Moreland: "To allow sufficient time for our Facilities team to clear the snow from our parking lots and sidewalks, Upper Moreland School District buildings will open at noon on Saturday, January 20. Any activities scheduled before noon on Saturday will be canceled or rescheduled."

On Friday morning, the county announced the Bucks County Justice Center and all Bucks County courts will be closed. "All scheduled court proceedings, including those scheduled at any Bucks County Magisterial District Court, are postponed. Jurors should not report to the Justice Center," read an email from the county spokesman.

All other Bucks County government offices will be open, but employees "who can telework are encouraged to do so," it read.
