CCSO identifies tree trimmer who died when large tree branch pinned him against tree

Authorities have revealed the identity of the tree trimmer who died in North Naples after Collier County deputies found him hanging from a large tree branch behind a property.

According to an incident report, when authorities responded to the Caribbean Road home around 10 a.m. Saturday, they found Nelson Tutputul, 22, hanging from a large tree. A Collier County Sheriff's Office report notes he appeared to be unconscious and wasn't moving.

The sheriff's office said Tutputul was hanging beyond reach and a roofing company assisted with his recovery.

A witness, identified as Alonso Yatsic, 24, told authorities he saw Tutputul using a chainsaw to cut down a large tree branch. He said a large wind gust blew through, causing the large branch to fall into Tutputul, who lost his balance.

The large tree branch pinned Tutputul against the tree.

Tutputul's brother, Norman Tutputul, 21, who was also working on the yard, told authorities he attempted to free his brother. When he attempted to cut the tree branch, he said, he fell 50 feet to the ground.

Norman Tutputul was transported to NCH Baker Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Authorities said it took about an hour until Nelson Tutputul was brought down. North Collier firefighters pronounced him dead on scene, the report says.

To retrieve him, the report says, firefighters had to tear down a portion of the fence near the side of the property.

The homeowner told authorities she heard a loud "bang," but didn't see anything.

Erika Ruthman, spokesperson for the Occupation Safety and Health Administration, confirmed Tuesday that Nelson Tutputul was an employee of Bonita Springs-based B&G Lawn & Landcare, 26270 Sherwood Lane.

Benjamin Vicente, the registered agent for the company, said they're back to business "as usual."

"We have sorted everything with the family, and we'll assume all the costs," he then told The News-Press and the Naples Daily News.
