Saturday tree-trimming incident that left 1 dead prompts federal government investigation

Federal government officials confirmed Tuesday they're investigating a Saturday tree-trimming incident that left one worker dead.

Erika Ruthman, spokesperson for the Occupation Safety and Health Administration, confirmed the lawn worker killed was an employee of Bonita Springs-based B&G Lawn & Landcare, 26270 Sherwood Lane.

Benjamin Vicente, the registered agent for the company, answered a phone call requesting comment Tuesday. He said they're back to business "as usual."

"We have sorted everything with the family, and we'll assume all the costs," he told The News-Press and the Naples Daily News.

Vicente said a second worker who was injured was released from the hospital Saturday.

He declined to release the employees' names.

Collier County deputies were called to the home on Caribbean Road, in North Naples, around 10 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities said a large cut branch fell and struck one of the workers, who died of his injuries. The second worker fell off the tree and was transported to NCH Baker Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office on Saturday identified the deceased as a 22-year-old.
