Brrrrr. It’s that time of year where the cold seeps deep into your bones, making it feel like it’s impossible to completely warm up.
That’s when you know it’s the best time to order a bowl of decedent soup, warming you up from the inside out. From its simplest form to unique flavors and ingredients, soup has its own type of healing power — especially when served on a chilly day.
The SouthCoast is ladling up a variety of soups this time of year that are sure to take the chill out of the winter blues. Head over to one of these local eateries and taste test them for yourself:
French Onion Soup
Get out of the cold and head over to The Profile Tavern. At 2 Crossroads Drive, East Freetown, you can warm up with a delicious bowl of the classic French onion soup. A traditional French onion soup with garlic crouton, Swiss and provolone cheeses topped with scallions for $8.

Zuppa Toscana
BOCCA’s menu has a crowd favorite with its zuppa toscana. Dig into a cup or bowl of Italian sausage, kale, and potatoes in a creamy broth for $5 or $7. Located at 100 Alden Road, Fairhaven.

Chicken Orzo Soup
Order the chicken orzo at Tia Maria's European Cafe, that tastes just like your Tia made it. A hearty and enriched chicken soup with orzo pasta, diced onions, and tender carrots for $4 a cup or $5.50 a bowl. It’s waiting for you at 42 N. Water St., New Bedford.
Seafood Soup
Sopa de maricios, or seafood soup, at Mi Antojo Mexican Restaurant - S 2nd st has everything you want in a meal. Loaded with blue shells, octopus, catfish, shrimp, crab legs, calamari, carrots, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and celery. For $22.95 it’s made fresh at 601 S. 2nd St., New Bedford.

Lobster Bisque
Quahog Republic Whaler's Tavern is home to a mouthwatering lobster bisque. At 24 N. Water St, New Bedford, you won’t want to miss a spoonful of Captain Tom's very own rich and creamy recipe with chunks of lobster. A cup is $13 and a bowl is $22.
Chale soup
Two local favorites are combined into one excellent bowl of soup at Cove Surf and Turf, 1500 Cove Road, New Bedford.
