Ellis is the second Columbus homicide suspect that U.S. Marshals have apprehended out of state within a week.

On Dec. 28, U.S. marshals apprehended 20-year-old Gabriel Hosings after he fled Columbus to West Virginia. Hosings is charged with murder in the Dec. 10, 2023, death of Shawn Overly, 34, also of Columbus, near an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Briggs Road.

Hosings was apprehended without incident in the town of Ghent, West Virginia, located approximately 73 miles south of the state capital in Charleston.
