Coronavirus: Global case total passes 4 million

Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Monday, May 11, 2020.

More than 4.1 million people worldwide have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and over 286,000 have died.

In the U.S., there have been over 1.3 million confirmed cases and more than 80,000 deaths. CDC Director Robert Redfield, NIAID Director Anthony Fauci and FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn are self-isolating after possible exposure to the virus. VP Mike Pence is not planning to self-isolate, though his press secretary tested positive on Friday. Meanwhile, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state would start to reopen on May 15.
