Coronavirus: Global death toll nears 300,000

Here’s a recap of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic for Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

More than 4.3 million people worldwide have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and over 297,000 have died.

In the United States, there have been over 1.3 million confirmed cases and more than 84,000 deaths. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled a more than $3 trillion coronavirus aid package ahead of a Friday vote. But the legislation faces an immediate roadblock in the Republican-controlled Senate. Meanwhile, the White House is now requiring staffers to wear masks while inside the West Wing after President Trump's valet and Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary tested positive.
