Daytona Beach girl, 6, killed in two-vehicle crash

A 6-year-old Daytona Beach girl was killed in a crash four days ago near the Lennar at Preserve at LPGA subdivision, police said.

A News-Journal reporter inquired about the fatal traffic incident on Tuesday after getting a message that the child was killed in the crash and that a fundraiser was being held for her.

Daytona Beach police said the crash occurred at 10:39 p.m. on March 28 at LPGA and Royal County boulevards.

Police said the child was in a vehicle that was traveling westbound on LPGA Boulevard, and while making a left turn onto Royal County Boulevard, an eastbound vehicle crashed into it.

The 6-year-old was one of three passengers in the westbound vehicle. A driver was the only person in the eastbound vehicle, police said.

All those involved in the crash were transported to Halifax Health Center in Daytona Beach. The 6-year-old died at the hospital, police said.

Police on Tuesday said no more information will be released as the crash remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page set up for the child identified the 6-year-old girl as Isla Harrell.

"We are reaching out to our community with heavy hearts to support the Harrell family during their time of immense grief," wrote Wendy Maddalone, the organizer of the GoFundMe account. "On Thursday, March 28th, tragedy struck as they lost their beloved daughter, 6-year-old Isla Harrell, in a devastating car accident right in front of their subdivision."

A News-Journal obituary published on Tuesday also identified the child as Isla Grace Harrell.

Lohman's Funeral Home in Ormond Beach also posted a similar obituary for the child on its webpage.

Austin Harrell, the father of the child, who is listed as the beneficiary of the GoFundMe page, could not immediately be reached through messages left on Facebook.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, donors had raised $34,845 for the Harrell family.
