Enjoy Thursday Nashville, temps will take a cold turn after that: 'We're talking Siberian weather'

It's about to get cold, fast Nashville.

Thursday is expected to be the last day of enjoyable temperatures (sunny with highs in the 50s) before they plummet for the remainder of the week. According to the National Weather Service, a cold front is expected to come in starting Friday.

Middle Tennessee has an 80-90% chance of experiencing temperatures below normal said the NWS. The cold front will bring along wind and rain.

"So next weekend is going to be a cold one. That's cold front #1. Cold front #2 is going to be painful. That one looks to come through on Monday," said the NWS in a Facebook post.

"However, it is worth mentioning that temperatures Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning could end up in the single digits. In fact, the entire week looks to be frigid. We're talking Siberian weather here."

The NWS said that a vigorous upper level trough digging the Central and Eastern United States has spawned a strong surface cyclone that will continue to impact the eastern third of the nation, including Tennessee, through early Wednesday.

"Colder temperatures will plunge into the Central U.S. in the wake of a cold frontal passage this week, initially impacting the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains on Wednesday and expanding into the Central Plains by Thursday," said the NWS.

"High temperatures will likely stay in the negative digits or only reach the single digits in the northern Rockies and northern Plains Thursday and Friday while the central Plains only reach the teens."

Although the forecast will continue to change, colder weather is inevitably on its way.

Will it snow in Nashville?

The cold front will perhaps bring some light snow accumulation along the Cumberland Plateau early Saturday. There is a chance of snow on Sunday night and Monday, however it is too early to anticipate exactly how much, NWS said.
