Fatal crash involving motorcycle in Martin County under investigation

MARTIN COUNTY — A 41-year-old Port St. Lucie man died in a motorcycle crash on State Road A1A over the weekend, highway officials said.

The crash occurred Friday just before 11 p.m. south of Jensen Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A black 2002 Honda motorcycle traveled north on A1A at what investigators said was a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a northbound 2024 Toyota Rav4 near Northeast Rigels Cove Way, highway officials said in a press release.

According to the agency, the man was thrown from the motorcycle and found dead by emergency responders on the highway, while the sport utility vehicle stopped on the roadway shoulder. The 71-year-old Jensen Beach man driving the SUV and its passenger were uninjured.

Martin County Sheriff’s investigators were called at 10:47 p.m., said Martin County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Laurie Weber.

The crash caused the closure of Northeast Ocean Boulevard between the roundabout at Northeast Causeway Boulevard to the north and Bob Graham Beach to the south. Sheriff's officials left the scene at 4:03 a.m. Saturday, Weber said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
