Hello and welcome to the Brunswick Today newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews reporter Jamey Cross.

I'm a pretty optimistic person. I'm happy to see the glass half full, rather than half empty, and I'll always find the silver lining.

So even though I'm chronically single, I love February. It's the month of love and romance and, sure, it would be easier to appreciate that with a partner, but even in my singleness, I'm still mesmerized by the pink and glitter and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate that line the grocery store shelves.

As I do, I found the silver lining: There shouldn't be anyone who wants to pay to name a bug after me and watch said bug get eaten by a duck this Valentine's Day. If you've had more success in the dating world than me, you might be harboring some resentment for your ex this month. If so, a veterinarian in Southport wants to help you get closure (or revenge).

For a small donation, River Road Animal Hospital will name a cockroach or mealworm after your ex and feed it to a duck or chicken before Valentine's Day. Here's the story.

Thanks for starting your week with us. Here's the latest in Brunswick County news.

Here we grow again

Well, it's finally happening: the eastbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are closed. I'm one of a lucky few who hasn't had to battle the traffic between Brunswick and New Hanover counties, but if social media reports are true, it seems the nightmare we've been bracing for for months has been realized.

While Tuesday saw major delays and traffic, it seemed like drivers got used to the new traffic patterns by the end of the week. While residents were dealing with the traffic impacts, area leaders met this week to discuss funding options for a replacement bridge. Yes, a toll option is still on the table. Reporter Megan Pociask has the latest.

If you are impacted by the closure, we want to hear from you! Answer this quick poll.

In Brunswick County, this city wants to build the county's first totally inclusive and accessible playground. With a maritime theme complete with pirate ships and treasure chests, the playground would be accessible to children and adults regardless of ability. Here's the story.
