Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. A Bedford man was arrested after police say he allegedly opened fire inside the Hampton Inn on Hawthorne Drive in Bedford after midnight on Monday. Officers responded to a report of disorderly conduct at the Hampton Inn shortly after midnight after a guest was concerned after hearing a loud noise in a nearby room. Police arrested Christopher Eggleston, 37, who they said had fired several shots inside the hotel and one through the door of another room. Bedford police found a semi-automatic Glock handgun when searching his room. You can read more about this story here: (Yahoo News)

  2. Voluntary vaccination clinics are being offered in New Hampshire Schools as illnesses from the omicron variant surge to 1,000 active cases with 299 clusters in the schools, according to the Department of Health and Human Services dashboard. Bedford is partnering with Rite Aid to host a vaccination clinic at Bedford High School on Feb. 2 for 12- to 15-year-old students who are eligible for the Pfizer booster. Bedford Superintendent Michael Fournier said the vaccines are voluntary and not required, but they want to make sure they are in a position to "give people that opportunity" if they want it. Bedford and Concord schools are also providing symptomatic testing for students. Bedford has testing available in all five of its schools. (WMUR Manchester)

  3. A flying car has been cleared for take-off, but if you want to fly one in Bedford, you'll need a pilot's license. A car that transforms into a small aircraft has passed flight tests in Slovakia, developers say. A spokesperson for Klein Vision told CNN that a pilot's license is required to fly the hybrid vehicle, and they hope to have the "AirCar" commercially available within 12 months. Kyriakos Kourousis, chair of the Royal Aeronautical Society's Airworthiness & Maintenance Specialist Group, told CNN that similar types of vehicles like this have been certified. He said that the choice of using an internal combustion engine was probably made to rely on proven technology, but the environmental impact "can be substantial," especially in urban settings. Kourousis said he would like to see a "full electric" or " hybrid" version of this and similar vehicles in the near future "to help us reach our environmental sustainability targets." (WMUR)
