Flying to or from Louisville with American Airlines? It'll cost a little more to check a bag

This airline, with routes to and from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, is increasing prices to check a bag, now costing more than other competing United States airlines.

American Airlines announced Tuesday that the cost of the first checked bag on most flights is increasing to $40 for those who didn’t prepay online. If paid online, the price is $35, according to the American Airlines service fee page. Previously, it cost only $30 for each payment method.

Flights within, or to and from the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are impacted by the price increase, with a second bag increasing to $45, from $40.

Other routes are also being affected by rising prices. For flights to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and Guyana, the first checked bag will cost $35, up from $30, and the second checked bag will cost $45, originally $40.
