George Jenkins High School briefly locked down after LPD receives threatening call

LAKELAND — George Jenkins High School went into a brief lockdown Tuesday around noon after a threatening call was received by Lakeland Police Department.

Lakeland Police Department's dispatchers received a call at 11:59 a.m. regarding a threat at George Jenkins High School, which is in Polk County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction. There were no specific details on what type of threat was made.Polk County Sheriff's Office Safe School Division was immediately notified as well as a patrol units, who responded to the campus in emergency mode. The school was placed on lockdown while thoroughly searched.

"Nothing nefarious was found," read PSCO's statement.

The school's lockdown was lifted at 12:14 p.m. according to PCSO.

Polk County Public Schools sent an automated email update out to George Jenkins families around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday confirming the school and its students had been briefly put on lockdown in response to a "threatening phone call."

"Law enforcement has investigated this incident and is on scene. The campus is safe and has been cleared to resume normal operations," read the school's update.
