Health news: AdventHealth names new foundation director; Flat Rock doctor honored

AdventHealth Hendersonville announced Jan. 24 that a familiar face will be taking over as director of the AdventHealth Foundation: Bo Caldwell.

Caldwell is the former superintendent of Henderson County Public Schools, having held that position from 2016 through 2020, when he retired after serving more than 36 years in education.

“I served Henderson County Public Schools for more than 36 years, starting as a classroom teacher and retiring as superintendent. I now have the opportunity to continue to serve my community working with AdventHealth," Caldwell said.

According to a news release, Caldwell recently had shoulder replacement surgery at AdventHealth. While he was there, he said he was "impressed with the dedicated and compassionate professionals working together to serve the people in their care." He said this was part of what inspired him to join the AdventHealth team.

“As soon as I walked into the hospital, I felt a sense of warmth and caring,” Caldwell said. “My hospital experience from the beginning to the end was of top quality with excellent service and care.”

Dr. Bull earns lifetime achievement award

Annually, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine announces 10 impactful awards, and earlier this month, the academy said a Henderson County doctor was one of the recipients.

Flat Rock native Dr. Janet Bull was announced as the recipient of the academy's Lifetime Achievement Award. Bull is currently the principal at Four Seasons Consulting Group. According to a news release, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding contributions and significant publications that have helped shape the direction of the field of hospice and palliative care.

Bull will be presented with her award at AAHPM’s Annual Assembly which will be March 22-25 in Montréal, Canada.

UNC Health Pardee ranked No. 1 in state for stroke care

UNC Health Pardee in Hendersonville has earned top accolades for clinical performance by Healthgrades, including being ranked No.1 in North Carolina for stroke care for a second consecutive year.

The hospital was also ranked No. 2 for critical care and was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for the third year in a row.
