Hornell making waves at Veterans Memorial Park. Pool house upgrades on the way

Hornell's Veterans Memorial Park at James Street is shaping up to look a whole lot spiffier this summer.

With nearly $900,000 in park upgrades and additions already scheduled for construction this spring, the city's Board of Public Works this month awarded a $479,500 contract to LeChase Construction to modernize the pool bath house and locker rooms.

Opened in 1995, the city pool is a favorite Maple City recreational resource with some 5,000 visits annually.

Here's what's coming to Veterans Memorial Park pool house

Set to get underway this spring, pool house work will include a modernization of the existing changing rooms and the construction of a new family bathroom, equipped with fixtures, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.

The existing locker rooms are set for an overhaul, with the installation of ADA-compliant ventilated locker units, new hardwood benches and improved lighting, the city said.

Hornell officials said the pool house improvements are scheduled to be completed in time for the summer season.

Mayor John Buckley said the upgrades "will improve accessibility and the overall experience for all pool users.”
