'I'm going to miss everyone': Made in Corpus Christi closing doors at end of January

Made in Corpus Christi, a local business that celebrates all things of the Sparkling City by the Sea, announced Tuesday it will close Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Owner Nikki Riojas posted on her business's Instagram letting her customers know of the news, about nine years after opening.

"We were welcomed into the community and given a space to introduce some new (and sometimes a little crazy) ideas to the city," Riojas said in the post. "Because of this, I have met some of my absolute favorite people in the world here."

She went on to say the reason for the closure of her storefront is so her children can become closer to their family that live in West Texas. Riojas and her family will be moving to Lubbock.

"We miss big Sunday dinners," Riojas said in the post. "We want them to remember holiday gatherings like we did growing up."

Since opening Made in Corpus Christi, Riojas has also created three other ventures to help small businesses ― Made in Texas, the Women's Entrepreneur Society of Corpus Christi and Shop Small Crawl.

Riojas said she's excited to see how the last two will continue in Corpus Christi, as she will continue Made in Texas up in Lubbock.

But customers can breathe a sigh of relief as Made in Corpus Christi's website will remain open for retail shopping. Riojas said she has shipped nationwide for years, but now shipping will be free.

Merchandise from her business will soon be found in select retail locations in Corpus Christi that will be announced at a later time.

As for if Riojas will start a Made in Lubbock, she said she'd love to but promised her husband she'd take a break.

"I hope to get in the small business community over there eventually," Riojas said. "I've been so appreciative of the community over here and can just hope it's the same there. I'm going to miss everyone here."
