Java’s Café reopens after temporary shutdown due to health code violations
A popular East End coffee shop has reopened after being closed temporarily because of health code violations.
A Feb. 16 inspection by the Monroe County Department of Public Health found 13 violations at Java's Cafe, 16 Gibbs St.
Two were deemed critical: inadequate refrigeration and spoiled food and food from an unapproved source on the premises.
Among the non-critical violations: the absence of effective measures to keep out rodents and insects and the presence of rodents, insects and other vermin.
The health department ordered the business closed until fixes were made.
That happened by early afternoon on Feb. 19.
Meanwhile, on Feb. 16, around the corner at 200 East Ave., Spot Coffee was given a greenlight to reopen after health department officials discovered health code violations, one critical, on Feb. 9.
