What we know about the suspect arrested in killings of 2 women in Indianapolis

An arrest has been made in connection with the killings of two women on the city's east side, Indianapolis police and the Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday afternoon.

Here is what we know about the suspect.

Who was arrested in the 2 Indianapolis killings?

David Hiner, 30, was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Marianne Weis and Shannon Lassere.

The suspect denied his involvement.

When he was questioned by police, Hiner denied his involvement.

He was living within walking distance of both killings.

Hiner was staying at an apartment complex within walking distance of where the women were found near the 2100 block of North Mitthoefer Road.

What evidence led to the arrest?

Police determined Hiner to be a person of interest and executed a search warrant on the apartment.

Police found shoes in the apartment that appeared to have dried blood on them as well as jeans soaking in bleach in a bucket in the bathtub. The shoes were sent to a lab for expedited DNA analysis, according to the news release.

Preliminary DNA analysis of blood from the shoes matched with blood of both victims, police said.

He was on probation at the time the crimes were committed.

Detectives learned Hiner was on probation out of La Porte County, Indiana. A probation violation was filed, and a warrant was issued for Hiner’s arrest. He has remained in custody since then, according to the news release.
