Trump the last choice for Christians

As a sister sojourner, I understand that God chose flawed people to do his will on earth, but I don’t understand why that belief should cause some Christians to choose Donald Trump as their choice for president.

Once those biblical prophets and disciples were called, they tended to straighten up, or at least, tried. Mr. Trump has undergone no such conversion. Instead, he seems to openly defy God. He uses insults and lies to steal the good name of anyone who opposes him. He has told us that, when president, he will seek “retribution.”

About “strangers in a strange land,” Mr. Trump says that they “poison our blood, yet he honors tyrants like Putin, and Kim Jong Un. Regarding adultery, Mr. Trump has bragged about his unfaithfulness. He plans to exploit our natural resources, unmindful of the wonders of creation. He glorifies his misdeeds and holds himself above the law.

Knowing what is required of us - “Only to do justice, love goodness and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8) - shouldn’t we seek these virtues in the person who will lead this nation, represent us to the world, be a model for our children?

Readers don't hold back: Letters: I have no love for Trump and he lacks humility, but I’d still take him over Biden

Trump is flawed but still a good leader

Mr. Bouzios and Mr. Kaiser revel in their moral superiority over Trump supporters. They detail Trump's sins and frailties and, by association, his supporters.

President Trump is no choir boy, but neither is Bill Clinton, who played hide the cigar in the Oval Office but was a fairly good president. Many ex-presidents have had illicit affairs and committed other sinful acts, but history recorded as good presidents.

But let's look at Joe Biden. He swam in the nude before incredulous female Secret Service agents while vice president. He has been credibly accused of improperly touching a woman as a sitting senator. Per his daughter's diary, he took showers with her while she was a teenager which led to her having serious sexual issues.

He has bragged about numerous questionable interactions with children. He is not allowed to participate in Catholic communion because of his support for abortion. Oh, yeah, he is sure some choir boy!

All of the above is documented and available for anyone to research. So, while these letter writers gleefully twirl their mustaches and pat themselves on the back for their sanctimony, perhaps they need to know whom they deem as moral.

Credit card bill threatens local business

As a local business owner in Milton, I have seen up close the economic hardships that our community and small businesses are facing. We need to do everything we can to help struggling small business owners. Fortunately, travel is slowly returning to pre-pandemic levels and businesses in tourism-heavy cities are again starting to enjoy the success we have worked to achieve.

Many Americans use credit card rewards programs to help offset the cost of their travel or vacation. These rewards programs are vital not only to the people using the points, but also for businesses like mine and communities like ours dependent on travel and tourism dollars.

So, why would lawmakers want to pass a law that would throw all of this in jeopardy? Legislation before the senate, the Durbin, Marshall Credit Card Competition Act, threatens to eliminate credit card rewards programs and harm local economies fueled by tourism.

If this bill becomes law, travel becomes more expensive for families, and the local economies that rely on tourism would also suffer. That is why I am calling on senators Scott and Rubio to oppose the Durbin-Marshall credit card bill and protect tourism jobs as well as our local economy.

Good Samaritans are still among us

On Saturday, Jan. 20, our Bible Study class, The Golden Circle, had 19 ladies that gathered at IHop on Pine Forest Road to celebrate birthdays. When it came time to pay our bill, we were informed a gentleman unknown to us had paid it.

He left us this note when he paid: “Happy birthday, thank you for bringing smiles to everyone’s face, hope you enjoy your day. God bless.”

This is one of those times that something really needs to be said about kind and generous people. Ever though he didn’t have to do it he did it anyway, and we want him to know (whoever he is) that we were overwhelmed with excitement, and we greatly appreciated his generosity. Thank you very much!

Also, we promised to make others happy and pass along the wonderful blessing we received.

Hear from our readers: Letters: Donald Trump is ready to terminate the Constitution. Is his plan that farfetched?

Neither Trump nor Biden worthy of vote

The stark reality of 2024 isn't found in NFL playoffs or confusing weather, but in the sad lack of qualified candidates for national and state offices. Paul Simon wrote in a lament, "Laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose, every way you look at this, you lose." Presidential candidates: both over age, both lead sheltered lives of privilege, both avoided military service, both think themselves above law and the Constitution.

Both harbor embarrassing secrets, both will spend billions to gain power, and both have no idea how we common folk struggle. Both have a very limited knowledge of history, law, ethics, and logic. Both are narcissistic, though one outdoes the other.

Both require unreasoned loyalty and mock criticism; both appear at times confused and over-emotional. Both travel in luxury, surrounded by followers unwilling to disagree with them. Both have children with many of the same character faults. Both do not know the cost of rent, food, gas, medical help for the majority of the citizens they claim to "love".

Both surround themselves with the wealthy, famous, uneducated, spoiled, and often a delusional bunch, all unqualified to advise anyone.

What to do? If you’re in the military, retired, or prior service - vote for your first sargent. If not, vote for the best boss you ever had. If you can't do that, vote for yourself. That's what write-in spots are for.

Biden is who they claim Trump to be

Everything Mike Shipp accuses Trump of is exactly what Biden is. He is mentally impaired now, but he’s always been a liar and has used his office to enrich himself and his family. He assaulted a staffer, and his behavior is strange around women and little girls.

Shipp hates Trump so much that he ignores what the Democratic Party is doing. They are trampling on the Constitution and using the Department of Justice to abuse fellow citizens. The borders have been thrown open to people who endanger this country and all of us. He and Obama have given millions in cash to countries that hate us.

With the exception of the "woke" generals, the Dems hate the military and law enforcement. This party is not the party of old. Wake up before we lose this country, stop hating so much, and lay off the CNN.
