Letters: Margaritaville on Cape Cod not representative of local beauty, environment

Margaritaville on Cape Cod? (Feb. 1) I fail to see the connection. Am I missing something? It is not very representative or indicative of the beauty that surrounds us on Cape Cod.

The new decor should incorporate our natural habitats and our native offerings. Our beloved blue hydrangeas (we like to call them native), our beach rosa rugosa, grasses, flowers, etc.

Let's not forget our gray seals, harbor seals, whales migrating just off our shores.

I think the Cape Codder Resort and Spa missed the mark here because I don't ever recall seeing any palm trees or parrots here on Cape Cod! Just saying ...

South Chatham residents representation on Affordable Housing Trust Board

Other letter writers have expressed the many legitimate concerns that South Chatham residents have with the density of the proposed Meeting House Road project. One obvious reason that their opinions do not seem to have been valued is that no South Chatham resident has been asked to serve on the Affordable Housing Trust Board.

Some background might help. In the early 1800s, the maritime industry made South Chatham the economic center of Chatham. Its decline led to the inability of the residents who remained to remodel and “improve” their homes. The modern consequence is that the numerous examples of early architecture resulted in the designation of South Chatham as a Historic District. Residents are justly proud of this honor and have a right to preserve the look and feel of our village by at least having a voice that is a determining factor in accepting the chosen developer’s plans.

Biden's support of Israel tarnishes his legacy

President Joe Biden’s domestic accomplishments over his first two years were commendable and, in fact, may well place him in the company of Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson, and his international achievements, for the most part, were no less laudable. That said, Biden’s legacy will be forever tarnished by his support for Israel’s indiscriminate destruction of Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 27,000 people, most of them innocent civilians.

The crimes committed by Hamas on Oct. 7 were barbaric and unforgivable, but they do not justify the subsequent crimes committed against thousands of innocent Palestinian people, and the United States, in its unqualified support of the Israeli assault, is complicit in those crimes. Having just received a ballot for the Democratic primary, I will not support Joe Biden but will, instead, write in “Cease Fire Now,” and I encourage others who are opposed to Biden’s disastrous policy to do the same.
